Lewis Hendrie has fished many fly fishing destinations around the world and he has bags of experience that belie his young years, from New Zealand, Australia, Canada, and The United States and all over Europe. Some of these destinations were experienced whilst representing the England youth fly fishing team over several years, attaining several Home-International and World Championship caps. What more could you want in an instructor? Did I neglect to mention that he is also an outstanding teacher too?

Exmoor White Horse Inn can provide fly fishing enthusiasts with the perfect host and instructor from the start of the session to the end. It’s guaranteed that a great time will be had by all and everyone should return with a fantastic ‘fisherman’s tale’ to tell everyone, as they relax in the bar in the evening, by a roaring log fire with a wee dram chosen from the 100 single malt whiskies on offer from the bar. For the fisherman’s partner who isn’t in to fishing – no problem. You will have plenty to see and do and you won’t have to go near a rod and line if you don’t want too! Go on a guided walk, try out Exmoor horse ridding, and enjoy the local life, quaint villages or beach. Shooting on Exmoor

Shooting on Exmoor

Shooting has been one of the popular acts that people adopt as a hobby as well. It is a passion for many, and people who are fond of it, take it as a recreational activity when they are in popular shooting destinations. They may also especially travel to such destinations for shooting purposes. Shooting is more common in uplands and is used to hunt down game birds and animals. What better place for zealous shooters and hunters than Exmoor?

Exmoor is a National Park situated in the South Western side of England. The picturesque terrain bestrides two countries, Devon and Somerset, and stores in itself lots of activities for adventurists. Some of those activities include fishing, climbing, hunting, strolling, kayaking, cycling, diving, gliding and many more.

For those people who love hunting, Exmoor has a lot to offer. It boasts about having some of the most exhilarating shooting activities in the country. It incarcerates red deer, vermin, wood pigeon, rooks, magpies, jays, crows, rabbits, game birds, pheasants, partridges, clay pigeon shooting and inert targets. Thus, visitors and tourists have a wide range of options to choose from so as to display their hunting skills in Exmoor throughout the year. The shooting ground is set in a deep valley in such a way that suits shooters of all levels of ability from complete beginners to seasoned shooters to expert shooters.

Exmoor is surrounded by exceptional quality shooting sites. All the accommodation facilities here offer numerous services to facilitate shooting activities. Most of them require the tourists to carry along only their guns and the rest is up to them to arrange. Moreover, they usually do not charge for providing these services to their guests except for the consumables used such as targets and cartridges. They provide the shooters with dogs and also ensure that a constant flow of birds or animals keeps coming in to fill in the shoot bags. For larger shooting groups, they also often organize transportation along with special breaks during the expedition. There is also a shooting school in Exmoor, where there are plenty of trainers who instruct amateurs in order to coach them for shooting.

Even though the hunting of animals, particularly deer, with dogs was abolished by the Hunting Act of 2004, the Exmoor hunts ran campaigns to resurrect this rural sport. Since then, the shooting activity is becoming even more popular locally as well as nationally. A study conducted in 2006 revealed that shooting on Exmoor alone contributed £18 million to the economy of the United Kingdom. Not only that, this sector is responsible for providing more than 1600 full time and part time jobs, and it also helps to maintain, guest houses, hotels and pubs at the time during the year when there would otherwise be only a few visitors.

Even today, the untamed beauty and the natural habitat invites shooters to explore the stunning, grassy highlands of Exmoor and enjoy the many activities along with glimpses and hunting of the beautiful wildlife existent there.

Why not experience the Traditional Boxing Day Hunt Meet here at the Exmoor White Horse Inn,  with the Devon and Somerset Staghounds at 10.30am. and later enjoy a leisurely stroll or take in some sightseeing.
