The Triple-M section of the MG Car Club is held a social weekend at the White Horse Inn at Exford in May 2009 and will be staying again on the weekend of the 28th May 2010.
The hotel is situated beside the River Exe in an attractive village in the middle of Exmoor. It is perfectly located for exploring the beautiful valleys and moors to north, south, east and west.
The bedrooms are all well appointed and the public rooms are pleasant and comfortable. The bar, as cosy as any village pub, is well-stocked and open all day. Picnic tables beside the river were the centre of our leisure time on a hot sunny May weekend.
Although the car park looks small it was well able to cater for 30-40 pre-war MGs which looked splendid outside the creeper-clad inn.
The function room, seating 80, was modern, welcoming and well laid out. We were able to choose our two dinner menus from the hotel’s restaurant menu which gave a big choice of fare including local trout, lamb and venison. The food was good, well presented and professionally served.
Breakfast was efficient with a well tended buffet and speedy delivery of tea/coffee, hot toast and alternative menu items.
The White Horse Inn’s crowning asset is its team of friendly, cheerful staff headed up by the owner Peter Hendrie. Nothing was too much trouble and, perhaps rare for the organisers of such an event, we did not have one complaint from our weekenders. On the contrary, we received many complimentary comments about the hotel, many thaks to all the staff we have had many letters of appreciation and thanks from our members.
The Exmoor White Horse Inn at Exford is an ideal base for a car club weekend and would highly recommend it to everyone.
