Exmoor White Horse Inn Charity for 2010
The Exmoor White Horse Inn has chosen the Exmoor Pony Charity
The Exmoor White Horse Inn has chosen the Exmoor pony charity, The Moorland Mousie Trust as its Charity of the Year for 2010. This ties in with the 10th anniversary of the Charity and the 4th year of operation of its base, The Exmoor Pony Centre.
During the year the hotel will collect donations exclusively for The Moorland Mousie Trust and will promote the charity to its clientele and guests. The hotel will host a number of fund-raising activities throughout the year for the Trust and also offer prizes for a Grand Raffle to be held to celebrate the Charity’s anniversary. Hotel owner, Peter Hendrie said, “Working in partnership with the Moorland Mousie Trust as our chosen charity for 2010, will encourage our friends and guests to further broaden their knowledge of the Exmoor Pony and understand how fragile this indigenous species is to the fundamental fabric of Exmoor”.
Based in Exford, The White Horse Inn offers a warm welcome to Exmoor visitors with 28 bedrooms, all en-suite. The hotel also offers its guests a variety of Exmoor-based activities including Exmoor Safaris, fly fishing, walking tours and photographic courses. Owner Peter Hendrie is a renowned international photographer who specialises in landscape images and a gallery of his work is located at the hotel.
The Moorland Mousie Trust was founded to promote and conserve the rare-breed Exmoor pony and works from its base of the Exmoor Pony Centre at Ashwick, near Dulverton. Visitors to the Centre, which is open year-round, are able to meet the Exmoor ponies and learn more about these beautiful animals. Many people are amazed to learn that the Exmoor pony is classified as an endangered species and that there are only around 3,000 of these ponies left in existence worldwide.
Founder of the Charity, Valerie Sherwin said, “We are thrilled to be associated with The White Horse Inn, particularly during this special year when we hope to be diversifying in our fundraising. It is a great location, and The Moorland Mousie Trust is very grateful to be given the opportunity to use its facilities to spread the word”
The Exmoor Pony Centre is located just off Winsford Hill in the heart of Exmoor National Park and is a beautiful 9 mile drive across the moor from the White Horse Inn. There is no admission charge however donations are always gratefully received.
