Christmas Days Out In Exmoor

December on Exmoor promises to be a magical one offering a spectacular line up of  Christmas light being switched on, candlelit walks, Christmas fares, Christmas concerts and late night shopping, there is sure to be something to please everyone this winter. Kicking off on December 1st at 6pm sees Light-up-Lynton. Santa will be there to switch on the Christmas lights. Be sure to bring your letters with you for Santa.

Weekend of Saturday 5th December is sure to get you in the Christmas spirit. Pop along to the Christmas Fayre at Allerford & Selworthy Hall in Harepark on Saturday 5th from 10am – 4pm selling a lovely collection of hand crafted and locally made Christmas goods and gifts, books, a raffle, charity stalls cakes and a selection of festive refreshments. Why not follow this with a spot of lunch and some Christmas shopping in Lynton. Then at 7pm there is a magical candlelit walk around Dunster Woods to learn about the local history and folk tales, some of which are thought to be true! Here you will be able to enjoy the best views of Dunster Village and the castle lit up.

On Sunday 6th there is a Christmas Fayre in Lynmouth at 11am with a variety of stalls and children’s games to entertain the family with. Why not enjoy a spot of lunch and shopping followed by a winter celebration by starlight at Dulverton. Shops will be open all day, followed by fireworks and a craft and gift market for a spot of late night shopping and Christmas entertainment.

Weekend of Saturday 12th December sees two days of spectacular Christmas festivities. Head on down to Lynmouth Pavilion at 11am or 2pm for the chance to make your own beautiful Christmas Wreath using natural woodland materials from Exmoor. Costs £12.00 per person and children are welcome (please note that children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult). Contact the organiser 01598 752509 to book places. Finish the day with a spot of late night shopping at Porlock, which starts at 6pm.

On Sunday 13th December Lynmouth Pavilion is holding a Christmas Decoration making workshop at 11am to make your own beautiful handmade decorations using natural woodland materials. Complete the Christmas season with a special Christmas Concert at Regal Theatre in Minehead featuring The New Scorpion Band. This four-person band brings together a collection of music styles, from the English, Scots and Irish traditions, early baroque and classical, opera, jazz, brass bands and theatre, television and film music. Established in 1993, The New Scorpion Band’s name is taken from the original quartet who performed with clarinet, trombone, cornopean and bass drum in south Dorset during the early 1830s. The band was established by the distinguished Dorset folk singer Tim Laycock, who devoted his life to music and traditions in the South West. Tickets cost £15 per person and can be booked through the organiser on 01643 706430.
